Ahoy Mates:  I just received the following announcement from Capt. Tom.  Last year he contacted marine architect, Dudley Dix, to design a schooner-rigged “ship’s boat” and, last winter, assisted with the aluminum construction at Dearden Marine, on Venture Way.  He plans to enter (and win) the “Race to Alaska" this year, with the assistance of sails and eight “oars-men” - (no engines allowed).
Tom knows the waters well, having skippered “Ocean Light II”, the eco-tour, 71-foot ketch which plies the northern B. C. waters in summer, and returns to Gibsons Town Marina in late fall to rest and re-commission for the next year.
Boat launch is at Gibsons Marina - Sunday, April 28.  All are welcome.
“Shake-down” trial:  Port Townsend to Victoria - three days.
Start of race:  Victoria - June 6
Finish:  Ketchikan, Alaska (750 miles)
There’s a lot of interest around the nautical world for this race.  Check out the website:  R2AK    [ If you’re a “swab”, you’ll find it fabulous. ]

P.S.   The patron capacity at “101 Brewery" is 80, so be sure to get your tickets early.
